JITRA: Police detained five men believed to be involved in drug trafficking and seized 596.05g of drugs believed to be heroin, worth RM58,000, after raids in Kampung Keda Pochan and Kampung Lubuk Pinang, Ayer Hitam, near here, recently.
Kubang Pasu Police Chief Supt Ibrahim Mohamad Yusof said during the first raid in Kampung Keda Pochan on Sept 4, four men, aged between 19 and 30 were detained and 253.25g of heroin worth RM25,400 was seized.
"The drugs were found in one of the bedrooms in a house. Police also found 6.39g of syabu in the house. One of the suspects had been convicted for a previous drug offence," he said.
"During the second raid at Kampung Lubuk Pinang on Sept 8, a 36-year-old man, who had recently been released from a drug rehabilitation centre (Puspen) was detained with 342.8g of heroin worth RM32,600 and 2.4g of syabu."
Ibrahim said both cases were being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death sentence if convicted.
Meanwhile, in an unrelated incident, police found a bag containing 18 slabs of ganja at the Immigration, Customs and Quarantine (ICQ) complex in Bukit Kayu Hitam on Sept 9 about 12.45am.
"The bag was found near a tree and the ganja was worth about RM45,000," he said. -- Bernama
