IPOH, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Police believed they have foiled a drug trafficking ring, which had been active in Ipoh, Batu Gajah and Kampar, with the arrest of eight men in three raids in the city last Saturday
Bukit Aman Narcotics Crime Investigation Department director Datuk Noor
Rashid Ibrahim said during the raids, various types of drugs worth RM550,000, as
well as drug paraphernalia, were seized.
"Among the seized drugs are 8.002kg of heroin, 1.219kg of syabu, 30 litres
of liquid syabu, 108gm of ketamin and 21gm of psychotropic pills," he told
reporters at the Perak police contingent headquarters here today.
He said the seizure was the biggest in Perak so far.
Apart from the drugs, police also seized cash of RM32,131, as well as seven
vehicles, jewellery and nine mobile phones valued at RM371,000.
Noor Rashid said the suspects, aged between 26 and 36, comprised seven
people who hailed from Perak and one from Melaka.
He said the first three suspects were nabbed in the raid on a condominium unit in Taman Meru Impiana here at 4.45pm.
During the arrest, one of the suspects sustained bodily injuries after he
tried to jump from the balcony on the first floor in a bid to escape the police,
he said.
"Police found several packets of heroin, syabu, ketamin and psychotropic pills in the house," he said.
Noor Rashid said the second raid was done on a house in Jelapang Tambahan at
around 5pm where various drug paraphernalia were found and two more men were
arrested in Taman Silibin Mewah.
On another raid on a hut in a banana plantation in Taman Suria, Tanjung Rambutan at 5.15pm the same day, police also arrested three men and seized 26
barrels of Acetone, four pots of liquid syabu, and more than four gunny sacks of
caustic soda flakes and other drug paraphernalia, he said.
Noor Rashid said initial investigation found that two of the eight suspects had previous criminal records related to drugs and robbery.
All of them have been remanded until Oct 29 to facilitate the investigation
under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a mandatory
death penalty upon conviction.
In TEMERLOH, a man who had just been released from prison last month was
rearrested in connection with drug trafficking.
The 36-year-old suspect was hiding in a bush in Kampung Bintang when he was
arrested at 1.30am.
Temerloh police chief ACP Md Nor Mansor said five packets of heroin weighing
5.2gm worth RM500 and two Eramin Five pills worth RM60 were found in his
backpack.
"Police also found empty straw tubes used to repackage the drugs, almost 30
lighters and needles in the man's backpack," he said.
Md Nor said during the arrest, the suspect was high on drug and initial
investigation found that he had been operating a small-scale drug trafficking
operation in the district. - Bernama
